The brief
An estate in Jubilee Hills with a main house, a newer wing and a gatehouse. The family wanted a true reference screening room for film evenings with guests, and a single security system covering the whole compound, gardens and outbuildings.
9.2.6 reference screening room
- Layout: left, centre and right behind an acoustically transparent screen, front wides, side and rear surrounds, and six overhead Atmos channels for precise height effects across three seating tiers.
- Bass: multiple subwoofers placed and phase-aligned by measurement for consistent bass at every seat.
- Projection: native 4K JVC D-ILA projection sized for the back-row seating distance.
- Processing: a separate processor with multichannel amplification for headroom at reference level.
Isolation and acoustics
The room was built as a room-in-room: decoupled walls with double drywall and damping, an isolated ceiling, a solid-core acoustic door and low-velocity HVAC. Inside, absorption, bass trapping and rear-wall diffusion were tuned for an even, controlled decay.
Ajax estate security without trenching
Ajax Jeweller radio, with ReX range extenders, connected detectors at the gatehouse, compound wall and gardens to one hub — no cable trenches through landscaped driveways. Curtain detectors protect large sliding doors, and a gate video door phone forwards calls to the family’s phones.
Network backbone
Cameras, the security hub, door stations and the cinema equipment rack run on a segmented EDN network, with access points extended to the newer wing and gardens.
Calibration
Every seat in all three tiers was measured before and after correction. The final tuning was checked with the family using films they knew well.
